Work and The Art of Focus

I studies martial arts for eight years when I was young.  I had the great fortune to train under Master Ju Hum Kim, a now 9th Dan Grand Master Tae Kwon Do Black Belt in Charlotte, North Carolina.  It has taken years for me to realize some of the things I learned.  Master Kim’s methods were very traditional and methodical.  Of the many things I learned during those classes, the one thing I have carried with me into my adulthood is Focus.

Where does a Virtual Employee look for jobs? Try FlexJobs.com!

If you are reading this blog post or if you have read my new book, then you understand being a Virtual Employee is the future of how we work.  It is quickly becoming the NEW standard of the type of job people want and strive to achieve. The idea of being able to work the way you want and have the freedom and a flexible schedule that molds to your life is very compelling.  But, not every company or manager is forward thinking enough to put a priority on allowing this type of work arrangement.  Telecommuting, working from home, remote working, still carry some negative connotation.  So, how do you find a great job fit for a modern, productive, Virtual Employee?

Build a Standing Workstation for Less Than $100

Today I am going to show you how I build a very functional wall-mounted standing workstation from parts I found at The Home Depot for less than $100.  If you want to learn more about why I starting using a standing workstaiton then head over my post titled A Case for Using a Standing Workstation I wrote.  That post explains in a little more detail why I started using a standing workstation in my home office.

This workstation design is wall-mounted and is not a free-standing desk.  There are other "how to" articles on the internet that can show you inexpensive ways to build a standing workstation that is free-standing and not wall mounted.  Here is a good post from IKEA Hackers that show a few free-standing designs: Corner & Extra Tall Standing Desks.  I chose a wall mounted design because I knew I could do it inexpensively and my office space had wall space that made it ideal.

Let's get to it!
